How to Upload and Install Drupal Manually on Web Server

Drupal is an open-source content-management and framework and it's Free, Recently we started the Joomla beginner series and I was thinking to start Drupal tutorial series, which is one of the best CMS solution, they're many well-known organizations used Drupal, And Drupal is an award winning CMS and won the Webware 100 award three times in a now, Drupal was written by Dries Buytaert.

How It Started

In 2000, Dries Buytaert (Founder of Drupal) and his friend Hans Snijde both were studying in university of Antwerp, And wanted an internet connection so they can depend on, But for Antwerp students' internet was like special thing only few of them access to the internet, Dries and Hans creates wireless bridge connections to their dorms, later they thought how good if there a place to talk so they can talk to each other.

Dries Buytaert got the idea to create a website where he and his friends can talk to each others and post updates about their status through a web board, So, Dries created a news website so he and his friend can talk about their activities, So this is how they created a short content framework.

The content framework software which they created was nameless for briefly, And Dries Buytaert wanted to name it "" which is the Dutch word for "village" when Dries was searching domain name for his CMS then suddenly he mistyped Dorp as Drop then Dries thinks it is good to be have instead of

And in January 2001 Just before Dries decided to release the software Dries changes to Drupal, which the English pronunciation of the Dutch word "druppel," which means "drop."

  • Installing the Drupal

    The first thing, That you need to do is create a database where your Drupal database will install if you are using a local web server (Xampp or Wamp) then skip this database setup, or if you are using online web server to install, then Go to your Web hosting account create the Mysql database and Mysql user if you don't have one of the create it from your Cpanel database section.

    Once you have created the Mysql database and user, Then copy your database name and User, Password, Mysql Host.

    Now you have the database where you can install Drupal, So now you have to download Drupal from "", Once you have downloaded Drupal then extract it to in a folder so you can upload it to your Web hosting account using the FTP Client if you don't have the FTP Client then download "Filezilla" it's free and secure, open up your FTP client and connect to your website through FTP.

    If you don't know your FTP login Details, Then go to your web hosting account add copy your details from your FTP section of your panel.

    Now run the Drupal installer by adding your domain Url to your browser where you just uploaded the files.

    now choose your language click on "save and continue" button, On the next step it asks you to select an installation profile, So select "standard" option.

    On the next page it will show you the Requirements, if you are getting the "OPcode" warring, then click on "continue anyway" link from the bottom of the page.

    On the next page it will ask you to enter your database details, So click on advanced tab extend the fields for the host and then add your Mysql database name, User, Password and the Mysql Host.

    And the click save and "continue" button then you will see the installing progress bar, and it will take few minutes or less to install on you web server or localhost.

    Once the installing finish then you will see the Configure page where you add the title or username of your admin area etc, After you Configured your site you will see your live website like this
