How It Started
In 2000, Dries Buytaert (Founder of Drupal) and his friend Hans Snijde both were studying in university of Antwerp, And wanted an internet connection so they can depend on, But for Antwerp students' internet was like special thing only few of them access to the internet, Dries and Hans creates wireless bridge connections to their dorms, later they thought how good if there a place to talk so they can talk to each other.
Dries Buytaert got the idea to create a website where he and his friends can talk to each others and post updates about their status through a web board, So, Dries created a news website so he and his friend can talk about their activities, So this is how they created a short content framework.
The content framework software which they created was nameless for briefly, And Dries Buytaert wanted to name it "Dorp.org" which is the Dutch word for "village" when Dries was searching domain name for his CMS then suddenly he mistyped Dorp as Drop then Dries thinks it is good to be have Drop.org instead of Dorp.org.
And in January 2001 Just before Dries decided to release the software Dries changes Drop.org to Drupal, which the English pronunciation of the Dutch word "druppel," which means "drop."
